PGA tour rookies Perry Moss and Jeff Woodland and 45-year-old veteran Ed Dougherty played a combined 96 holes of golf Friday and came out tied for the lead after the second round of the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic.
Forced into playing most of the first round and then the second round Friday because of weather delays, Dougherty, Moss and Woodland finished at 8-under 132 on the 6,280-yard Hattiesburg Country Club.Moss, 23, who graduated from nearby LSU in 1991, had hit only one ball when rain stalled play Thursday. He played 36 holes Friday, shooting two rounds of 4-under 66. Dougherty, who turned pro the year Moss was born, completed the last nine holes of his first round in 2-under, then was 3-under in the second round on the soggy course.
Woodland, an Australian who holds the Nike Tour record with a 12-under 60, completed his first round in 6-under 64 and shot a 2-under 68 in the second round.
Barry Jaeckel shot a 5-under 65 and is behind the top three at 7-under 133. First-round leader Jeff Cook is also at 7-under.
