George Leroy White died April 6, 1993 in Long Beach, California.

He was born in Savanna, Oklahoma March 30, 1924, son of Lee and Rosella Moore White. His early life was spent in Oklahoma and Bisbee, Arizona. The family moved to Park City, Utah in 1934, where Leroy was active in high school activities and football.Leroy served in the U.S. Navy and afterward lived in Granada Hills, Downey, and San Clemente, California. While serving in the Navy, White developed a non-combat medical condition which left him a paraplegic.

He was on the Board of Trustees of the Capistrano Unified School District for 12 years, serving as President for three terms and Vice President for three terms. He was a pioneer in efforts to ensure handicapped students the right to "free and appropriate public education." He was active in other community affairs, winning Orange County Man of the Year Award.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy of San Clemente, Calif.; daughters, Nancy Nourani, and Deborah Mellah; grandsons, Cary Nourani, and Sasha Mellah; granddaughter, Kelsea Mellah, all of Capistrano Beach, Calif.; sisters, Mary Jane Williams of Salt Lake City; and Ailene Sorensen of San Clemente, Calif.; and brother, the Reverend Frank White of Honolulu, Hawaii. Preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial services will be held Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m., at the George L. White Elementary School, 25422 Chapparosa Park Dr., Laguna Niguel, California.
