The Utah Jazz signed veteran center James Donaldson to a contract for the remainder of the year and placed Mark Eaton on the injured list Thursday.

Donaldson, 7-foot-2, 278 pounds, hasn't played this year. Last season he averaged 4.9 points and five rebounds with Dallas and New York. The 12-year NBA veteran's best season was 1983-84, when he averaged 11.8 points and 8.1 rebounds. His career average is 8.9 points and eight rebounds. The contract means Donaldson will be paid through the remainder of the year and for any playoff games. Meanwhile, Eaton, suffering from an injured disc, will be out at least the required five games - until the final game of the year, April 25 at Minnesota.

If Eaton returns from the injured list, the Jazz would need to release one player to keep to the 12-person limit.
