The State Board of Education on Friday suspended for three months the teaching certificate of Wendover High School Principal Eulogio Alejandre, who was arrested on a prostitution charge last fall.
The board voted 12-2 to suspend Alejandre's certificate immediately, said spokeswoman Eileen Rencher. The members acted on a recommendation by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. Both dissenters felt Alejandro should have been suspended for a longer time, Rencher said.
Alejandro's certificate can be restored three months from Friday, she said.
Alejandro was arrested by undercover police after driving some students in a district car to Salt Lake City, then dropping them off at a function and seeking out a prostitute, authorities said.
He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge.
Attempts to contact Tooele School District administrators by telephone Friday were unsuccessful.
