Profiles of the top players in Sunday's NFL draft. All are seniors except otherwise noted:

QuarterbacksDREW BLEDSOE, Washington State, 6-5, 233, junior - Strongest arm in the draft. Despite starting only 28 games, he is second-leading passer in school history. Passed for school-record 476 yards against Utah in the Copper Bowl.

RICK MIRER, Notre Dame, 6-2, 216 - Better career stats than Joe Montana and Joe Theismann, even though he played on run-oriented team. His 41 TD passes are most ever by Irish QB.

MARK BRUNELL, Washington, 6-1, 206 - Good scrambler with accurate arm. Was backup to Billy Joe Hobert before becoming starter in sixth game last season. Completed 57 percent of his passes.

JAMIE MARTIN, Weber State, 6-2, 210 - His 12,291 yards in total offense is fourth best in NCAA history. As a junior, won Walter Payton Award as top player in Division I-AA.

GINO TORRETTA, Miami, 6-2, 219 - Last year's Heisman Trophy winner, he is leading passer in Hurricanes' history. Led Miami to the national championship in 1991.

Running backs

GARRISON HEARST, Georgia, 5-9, 199, junior - Even with questionable knee, he is considered the top runner available. Also a good receiver. Nation's leading scorer and No. 2 rusher last season.

TERRY KIRBY, Virginia, 6-1, 221 - All-around athlete who also played basketball for the Cavs. The school's top career rusher with 3,348 yards.

REGGIE BROOKS, Notre Dame, 5-7, 209 - Compact runner who is effective inside and outside. Averaged 8 yards per carry last season, just shy of George Gipp's school record.

ADRIAN MURRELL, West Virginia, 5-10, 206 - Elusive with great cutting ability and good hands. Led the Mountaineers in rushing last year with 1,145 yards.

KEVIN WILLIAMS, UCLA, 6-0, 212 - Potent package of power and speed. Led Pac-10 in rushing in 1991.

Fullbacks

JEROME BETTIS, Notre Dame, 5-11, 248, junior - Can do it all - run, catch and block. Stats weren't sensational because he played in same backfield with Rick Mirer and Reggie Brooks.

NATRONE MEANS, North Carolina, 5-10, 255, junior - Good all-around back who led the Tar Heels in rushing last season with 1,195 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Wide receivers

CURTIS CONWAY, Southern Cal, 6-0, 185, junior - Big-play specialist with blazing speed and amazing moves. No. 1 kick returner and No. 3 punt returner on Trojans' career list.

SEAN DAWKINS, California, 6-4, 213, junior - Tall receiver who can outjump defenders for the ball. Led Pac-10 with 65 catches for 1,070 yards and 14 TDs last season.

QADRY ISMAIL, Syracuse, 6-0, 192 - Like his brother Rocket, the Missile is a terrific kick returner. But he's a better receiver than Rocket.

VICTOR BAILEY, Missouri, 6-2, 196 - Deep threat who set school records with 75 catches for 1,210 yards in 1992.

O.J. MCDUFFIE, Penn State, 5-10, 191 - Versatile player who set or tied 15 Penn State records, including most all-purpose yards (1,831) in a season.

Tight ends

IRV SMITH, Notre Dame, 6-3, 255 - First-rate blocker and tough runner after making the catch. Will be second straight Irish TE to go in first round, following Derek Brown.

TROY DRAYTON, Penn State, 6-2, 253 - Quickness of a wide receiver. Set school mark last year for most receptions by a tight end.

Centers

STEVE EVERITT, Michigan, 6-4, 290 - Explosive run blocker and excellent deep snapper. Helped Wolverines' offense average 465 yards per game.

MIKE COMPTON, West Virginia, 6-6, 297 - Superb drive blocker who can dominate in one-on-one situations. First-team All-American last season.

Offensive guards-tackles

WILLIE ROAF, Louisiana Tech, 6-4, 307 - Impressive combination of size, strength and speed. Played well against great Alabama defensive line that featured All-Americans Eric Curry and John Copeland.

LINCOLN KENNEDY, Washington, 6-6, 357 - Quick and agile for a huge man. Finalist for the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award.

BEN COLEMAN, Wake Forest, 6-4, 331 - Former defensive lineman who made smooth transition to offense. Needs to work on technique.

ERNEST DYE, South Carolina, 6-5, 337 - Played two years for Gamecocks following junior college career in Mississippi. Big and powerful, but tends to be out of shape.

LESTER HOLMES, Jackson State, 6-3, 301 - Aggressive, hard-nosed competitor who must work on pass protection.

BRAD HOPKINS, Illinois, 6-3, 306 - Exceptional athlete who played tight end in high school. Dominates at times, but sometimes loses concentration.

WILL SHIELDS, Nebraska, 6-2, 304 - 1992 Outland Trophy winner. Quick off the ball and pulls well. A little short for the position, however.

Kickers

JASON ELAM, Hawaii, 5-11, 192 - Kicked 77 field goals, three short of NCAA career record. Great hang time on kickoffs.

DARON ALCORN, Akron, 6-2, 241 - Good long-range kicker. Booted 56-yarder on final play to beat Toledo.

Defensive linemen

DAN WILLIAMS, Toledo, 6-3, 290 - Dan Who? Though not exactly a household name, this long-armed pass rusher has loads of talent.

JOHN COPELAND, Alabama, 6-3, 286 - Along with Eric Curry, formed the most dominant defensive duo in the country. Relentless pursuer and tough tackler.

ERIC CURRY, Alabama, 6-6, 265 - More of a finesse player than Copeland. Tall and fast with explosive first step.

DAN FOOTMAN, Florida State, 6-5, 288 - Fantastic athlete with fat-free body. Downside: lacks experience and had major knee surgery.

DANA STUBBLEFIELD, Kansas, 6-2, 302 - Though slowed by ankle injury last season, was All-Big Eight for second straight year.

COLEMAN RUDOLPH, Georgia Tech, 6-4, 268 - All-time sack leader in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Hard worker who has gotten bigger and stronger in the weight room.

LEONARD RENFRO, Colorado, 6-2, 291, junior - Good speed and stamina, but a little short for a lineman.

MICHAEL STRAHAN, Texas Southern, 6-4, 253 - Limited experience, unlimited potential. Needs more upper body strength.

GILBERT BROWN, Kansas, 6-2, 330 - Tackle in college, noseguard in the pros. Must watch his weight.

Linebackers

MARVIN JONES, Florida State, 6-1, 237, junior - Top defensive player in country last season, he won the Butkus and Lombardi awards. Explosive hitter.

DEMETRIUS DUBOSE, Notre Dame, 6-1, 232 - Tremendous competitor who always hustles. Despite missing first two games last season due to NCAA suspension, led the Irish in tackles.

WAYNE SIMMONS, Clemson, 6-2, 236 - Great physical specimen - fast, quick and extremely active. Erratic performer.

MICHEAL BARROW, Miami, 6-1, 236 - All-out player who will hit anything that moves. Led Hurricanes with 131 tackles, Big East defensive player of year.

DARRIN SMITH, Miami, 6-0, 228 - Very smart player who was a graduate student last year. Not very big, but makes up for it with desire.

CHRIS SLADE, Virginia, 6-4, 234 - Sensational pass rusher who was a defensive end in college. Holds ACC record with 39 career sacks.

Defensive backs

DEON FIGURES, Colorado, 5-11, 192 - Won Thorpe Award as top defensive back in nation. Led the Buffaloes with six interceptions.

CARLTON GRAY, UCLA, 6-0, 182 - Latest in long line of great Bruin defensive backs. Excellent on-one-one defender.

PATRICK BATES, Texas A&M, 6-3, 224, junior - Talented but inconsistent.

TOM CARTER, Notre Dame, 5-11, 187, junior - Superb speed and jumping ability. Showed major improvement last season, but still has a lot to learn.

RAY BUCHANAN, Louisville, 5-9, 193 - Though short and stocky, he's a good leaper and has knack for the interception.

DARRIEN GORDON, Stanford, 5-11, 182 - Very good athlete with limited experience as a defensive back.

Punters

HAROLD ALEXANDER, Appalachian State, 6-2, 225 - Led NCAA Division I-AA in punting the last two seasons.
