Former U.S. senator from Utah Jake Garn has been named to Intermountain Health Care's board of trustees.

The IHC board consists of 25 volunteers who receive no payment for their service, a spokesman said."This group holds the assets of IHC in trust for the community and deals with issues that impact all IHC facilities. They review actions, make decisions and give direction to IHC management," the spokesman said.

In another change, Dr. Alan R. Nelson has been named to the executive committee of the board, on which he has served since 1990. A Utah native, Nelson currently serves as the chief executive officer of the American Society for Internal Medicine, Washington, D.C.

Upon his retirement from the U.S. Senate, Garn was appointed vice chairman of Huntsman Chemical Corp., Salt Lake City. He also serves on the boards of Dean Witter Funds, New York City, and Franklin Quest, Salt Lake City.
