Gov. Mike Leavitt announced Monday his appointment of attorneys Andrew A. Valdez, Anthony W. Schofield and Steven L. Hansen as district court judges.

After reviewing recommendations by the Judicial Nominating Commissions, Leavitt appointed Valdez to serve as a new 3rd District Juvenile Court judge, and named Hansen and Schofield as 4th District Court judges. Utah's 4th District includes Juab, Millard, Utah and Wasatch counties.Valdez, who currently works with the Felony/Homicide Division of the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association, lives in Salt Lake with his wife and four children. He has served as a member of the Youth Parole Authority, including two terms each as chairman and vice chairman.

Schofield, currently deputy commissioner in the Utah State Insurance Office, previously worked as a partner in the law firm of Ray, Quinney and Nebeker. Schofield and his wife have eight children and live in American Fork.

Hansen maintains a private law practice and is currently serving as Wasatch County attorney. He and his wife Jackie live in Heber City and have seven children.
