Grace Callis Summerhays, 89, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 1993 at 12:40 p.m., at home in Glendora, California.
Born July 4, 1903 in Kamas, Utah the daughter of Apostle Charles A. Callis and Grace Elizabeth Pack. She married William Paul Summerhays on December 14, 1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.An active member of the church throughout her life, she served in many leadership capacities in the Primary, YWMIA and Relief Society auxiliaries. Among the highlights of her church service was the opportunity to serve with her husband as he was called to be the first director of the Visitor's Center at the Oakland, California Temple following its dedication. She later served as an ordinance worker in the Oakland Temple while her husband served in the Temple Presidency. Following his death she served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.
Survivors include a son, Charles C. Summerhays of Glendora, California; two daughters, Laura C. Stay, currently serving a full-time mission with her husband in Guatemala City, Guatemala and Julia C. Baker of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and three sisters, Kathleen Larsen of Danville, California, Laura Horne of Midland, Texas and Pearl Dean of Fullerton, California.
Graveside service will be held Friday, July 2, 1993, 11 a.m., Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave. and N St. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Thursday 6-8 p.m.
