Brighton High's Sean Hagen, selected in the eighth round in the recent baseball draft by Pittsburgh, has decided to give up a football/baseball scholarship to the University of Utah to sign with the Pirates.
Hagen was given a signing bonus and will report to the Pirates' Gulf Coast League team in Bradenton, Fla., next week.
Two other Utah high school stars are weighing their options this week. Robbie Reid, the Spanish Fork star and son of BYU basketball coach Roger Reid, was drafted in the 40th round by San Diego. Reid, who is expected to join his brother Randy on the BYU hoops squad, will meet with Padres officials this week.
Taylorsville catcher Patrick Johnson was selected by Kansas City. He's expected to decide his future early this week.
