Paramount Pictures producer Scott Rudin has paid $1 million for film rights to the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "A Confederacy of Dunces."

The deal includes the services of director Steven Soderbergh of "sex, lies and videotape," with Scott Kramer producing from a screenplay by Frank Galati, who wrote "Accidental Tourist."
