NORTHERN REGION

Waters in the reservoirs have warmed up, so fish have moved out to deeper water. Best from boats, but shore fishermen can try near inlets with traditional baits for success. Ogden Area Toll-Free Statewide Fish Information, 479-0990BEAR LAKE - Good trolling on surface with small spoons for 12- to 14-inch cutthroats. Good launching conditions at Cisco Beach, Rainbow Cove and First Point for large boats. Limited launching at the marina for shallow drafted boats. Water level is rising rapidly. Check proclamation for size restrictions, limits, etc. Water level is still rising.

BEAR RIVER - Fair fishing for catfish. River is receding by the Corinne Bridge, and on the Bear River Refuge road. Picking up some nice sized catfish.

BLACKSMITH FORK - New regulations are in force this year, so the whole stream is open to bait fishing. Anglers may now keep eight trout, only one may be a cutthroat or trout with cutthroat markings. Slot limit has been removed. Small mayfly, caddis and stonefly hatches daily - best in the evening.

CAUSEY RESERVOIR - Fair for small rainbow. Fishermen are picking up some cutthroats.

EAST CANYON RESERVOIR - Fair fishing for 10- to 12-inch rainbows near the inlet. Best from boats. Shore fishing has slowed down because of warmer waters.

ECHO RESERVOIR - Fishing has slowed down, but good catfishing at the south end near the old river channel.

FARMINGTON POND - Construction in progress around reservoir causing limited access. Heavy pressure, but gets stocked about every other week.

HOLMES CREEK - Fair fishing for largemouth bass. No boats or float tubes allowed.

HYRUM RESERVOIR - Fair for bluegill and yellow perch. Some rainbows being caught. Catching quite a few bass, but not many keepers over 15-inch. Moderate pressure near the dam.

KAYSVILLE POND - Pond is low with a lot of moss. Some bass going into creel.

LOGAN RIVER - Fishing good with flies for browns. Cutthroat trout limit is one-check proclamation. Flies and lures only from Card Canyon Bridge to Red Banks Bridge.

LOST CREEK RESERVOIR - Fair fishing for small rainbows and cutthroats, especially from boats. Bank fishermen having success near the dam.

MANTUA RESERVOIR Good fishing for 14- to 18-inch rainbow trout going into the creel. There is still some more nice ones lurking below.

MILL HOLLOW RESERVOIR - Nice reservoir in the mountains to take the family. Fair fishing.

NEWTON RESERVOIR- Fair fishing for bass and bluegills. Catfishing fair, some up to 8 lbs. being caught. Don't forget 15-inch minimum size limit on bass.

OGDEN RIVER - Fair fishing for rainbows. Near town, river is stocked regularly. Look for deeper holes when fishing for browns.

PINEVIEW RESERVOIR - Crappie fishing good. Try small jigs (white or chartreuse) three-four feet below a bobber. Bass 15-inch minimum and tiger muskie 30" minimum. A few muskies up to 32" being caught.

PORCUPINE RESERVOIR - Fair fishing for rainbows near inlet.

ROCKPORT RESERVOIR - Fair fishing for rainbows. when fishing for bass, look for rocky, gravel areas. Don't forget, bass under 12 inches must be released.

SMITH & MOREHOUSE - Fair fishing for rainbow trout with power bait and eggs. Nice place to take the family and camp.

SOUTH FORK OGDEN- Fair for brown and cutthroat trout. Stocked with rainbows. Best with flies.

TONY GROVE Fair fishing with traditional baits.

UINTA LAKES Good success at Pass Lake. Hoop Lake fair for medium sized rainbows. Bridger has rainbows and brookies. Fair fishing. Stream fishing has been good also.

WEBER RIVER - Spotty when fishing for browns. From the mouth of the canyon toward Riverdale, fair fishing for stocked rainbows. A lot of private property along the river, please don't trespass.

WILLARD BAY - Crappie has slowed down. Some nice catfish being caught with worms, stinky shrimp, and carp meat along the rocks. A few walleye still being caught on night crawlers bouncing off the bottom from the rip-rap.

CENTRAL REGION

STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR - Fishing has been fair. Fishing for Cutthroats - use pop gear or a worm, Rainbows have been best with power bait and have been in the dense weeds in the Narrows. Fishing for rainbows have picked up somewhat. The water has warmed up somewhat so they have became more active. Kokanee is expected to improve and become excellent during the next few weeks. Kokanee have already begun to migrate of several of the streams and have begun to stage in many of the bays. Look for them in the shallow bay areas in Soldier creek Bay, chicken Creek Bay, Strawberry River Bay, sue small spinners (Mepps, panther martin, small daredevils) Remember the voluntary release on the cutthroats and please clip the line when you release them. Also remember the tributaries are closed to fishing. It's a lot of fun to watch kokanee migrate upstream but don't be tempted to try to take them.

PROVO RIVER - Still running at approximately 500 cubic feet per second. It has not dropped as it generally does about mid-August but fishing has been excellent. Flows between Olmstead and Murdock Diversions have been about 200 cfs. Fishing between Desert Industries and Village green for stocked rainbow trout is excellent. Successful fishermen are using salmon eggs, worms and nymphs.

DEER CREEK - Excellent trout fishing early in the morning between 6 and 9 a.m. Successful fishermen are trolling using pop gear and worms or leaded line and triple teasers. They are fishing at depths between three and four colors. Best fishing appears to be in the upper end of the reservoir. Small mouth bass are being taken at several locations around the reservoir. Best fishing has been in the evenings. Smallmouth up to 16 inches have been caught but most are less than 12 inches long. Few walleye are being reported caught.

NINE MILE RESERVOIR- Fishing is slow during the day - best at night. Power bait or flies for shore fishermen, troll pop gear and lures for boat fishermen.

SOUTHERN REGION

FISH LAKE - Access is good. Please remember to remove all vegetation from boats and trailers before leaving the area. Good fishing for rainbows using power bait, worms or trolling with pop gear and a worm along the east shore. Good fishing for perch in 6 to 10 feet of water using a small spoon tipped with a piece of worm. Lake trout fishing is fair.

JOHNSON RESERVOIR - Access is good. Fremont river below the reservoir is closed to fishing. Fair fishing for 12- to 16-inch rainbows in the early morning and late evening. Try worms or power bait.

KOOSHAREM RESERVOIR - Access is good. Spotty success for 12- to 14-inch rainbows. Try worms or power bait. Fly fishermen are doing better in the evening at the North end.

PANGUITCH LAKE - Access is good. Fishing is slow but a lot of the fish being taken are 2-3 pound rainbows.

TROPIC RESERVOIR - Access is good. Best fishing is in the Northwest end of the lake using power bait.

ENTERPRISE RESERVOIR - Access is good. Good fishing for pan sized rainbows.

KOLOB RESERVOIR - Access is good. Water conditions are great. Fair fishing for rainbows and cutthroat trout. Some nice Brook trout are also being taken. Power bait and worms from shore are good. Best fishing from boats.

NORTHEASTERN REGION

CURRANT CREEK RESERVOIR - Moderate to heavy angler pressure, slow success rates from shore and boats.

CURRANT CREEK - Moderate to heavy angler pressure, slow fishing. Regulations on Current Creek and tributaries above Water Hollow Creek are flies and lutes only, limit two trout.

FLANING GORGE RESERVOIR - Reports of fair fishing in evenings for small rainbows , slow fishing for lake trout. Good for small bass. Try small brown, brownish-green or copper colored rubber grubs/worms or spoons against the boulders along the shore for bass. Please keep your limit of the small bass as they are overpopulated and they make an excellent panfish for eating.

HIGH UINTA LAKES - Fishing has been good. Access to most high elevation lakes open depending on storms. Can still see snow in the high country. Mid-elevation lakes - Paradise, East Park, Oaks Park, etc. generally light moderate pressure and fair to good fishing.

SOUTHEASTERN REGION

BENCHES RESERVOIR - The catch has been challenging, although a new load of 1,000 rainbows on August 12 should improve the harvest.

BOULGER'S RESERVOIR - Harvest success has been sporadic - good one day and slow the next. Restocked on August 12.

LAKE POWELL - Stripers continue to chase shad to the surf - ace but the boils have been a little more subtle with less surface disturbance. Boils have occurred consistently in the morning in Bullfrog Creek, Hall's Creek and Moki Canyon. Randomly occurring boils have been sighted in Red, White and Blue Notch canyons. other likely locations include Last Chance, West Canyon and Navajo Canyon on the lower lake. Most of the stripers chasing shad to the surface are in the one to three pound size class. Stripers above four pounds can be taken by fishing lures or baits at 40 to 80 foot depths. A 43 pound fish was taken recently about one mile upstream from Dangling Rope in the main channel. The angler was trolling slowly from a houseboat at about 80 to 100 feet with a silver spoon and trolling weight. For more information, call the Lake Powell fishing hotline at 1-800-695-FISH.

SCOFIELD RESERVOIR - Fishing has been very good on the south end of the reservoir. Boat anglers are doing much better than shoreline fishermen. Trout have run in the 2- to 4- pound range. Some anglers are taking limits of the hefty fish.
