I strongly agree with those who are alarmed about media violence. However, the media preoccupation with sex is just as alarming. This sexual saturation does great harm to the institution of the family; and when the family is harmed, there's a frightening ripple effect. Most of the tragic problems we face as a society would be greatly minimized with more strong families.
Has anyone seen many movies or TV shows that emphasize sexual self-control? Physical and emotional fidelity to one's spouse? Teaching that sex is for married, committed adults, not teenagers? The media must take a heavy share of the responsibility for the sad condition our society is now in.I urge people to speak up now. Channel 4 is planning to air a new ABC show this September, "NYPD Blues," a series intended to push TV's limits on sex, violence and raw language. I have read comments about the show and have seen pictures shot from the pilot - it is soft porn.
