John M. Ridges, loving and kind husband, father and grandfather, age 83, died 1 Sept., 1993, at his home in North Salt Lake City, Utah, after a courageous battle with cancer.
All those who knew him, expressed how they felt about him, saying, "He is a kind, gentle, good, loving and noble person." He loved people and knew that each person is important. He had great joy in his family and gave faithful service to his employers and in his callings in the LDS Church.Born in Ogden, Utah, on 12 Feb., 1910, son of Wilford O. and Letitia Chambers Ridges. Attended schools and Weber College in Ogden. Graduated from University of Utah, Salt Lake City, with B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1933. Married Verla M. Nelson, 20 August, 1937, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Lived in Ogden, Utah; Sparks, Pioche and Panaca, Nevada; and North Salt Lake City, Utah. He was employed by Lincoln Co. Power District and Combined Metals near Pioche, Nevada and by Industrial Physics and Electronics Co. as well as the Galigher Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was an LDS Bishop in Pioche and Panaca, Nevada. Served on the Uvada (in Nevada) and South Davis (in Utah) Stake High Councils. He was a Stake Patriarch in the South Davis, Orchard, and North Salt Lake, LDS Stakes for 24 years, beginning 5 January, 1969.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister and three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Verla, of North Salt Lake; a sister, Marjorie Keller, and sister-in-law, Mathel Ridges, of Ogden, Utah; and five sons and three daughters and their spouses: Edward N. Ridges and Janice, of Bountiful; David J. Ridges and Janette, of Springville; Stephen W. M. Ridges, of North Salt Lake; Elna Ridges Manning and Steven, of North Salt Lake; Janet Ridges Wadsworth and Bryant, of Brussels, Belgium; Laurel Ridges Erickson and Winston, of Salt Lake City; W. Lance Ridges and Laurie, of Kaysville; J. Rand Ridges and Marla, of Centerville; and by 42 of 45 grandchildren; and two great grandsons. All of them love him and will miss him very much.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 4 September, 1993, at 11:00 a.m. in the Orchard 3rd Ward Chapel, 261 East Center Street, North Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and also at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Memorial Estates Lakeview Cemetery, Bountiful, Utah.
