Robert D. Myrick was elected president of the Utah Association of Financial Institutions here Saturday at the association's annual convention at Stein Eriksen Lodge.
Myrick is president and chief operating officer of Mountain West Financial Corp., where he has served since 1992. Prior to that he served for 25 years in the financial services industry, including positions with American Express and Valley Bank.The association is a trade group for lending institutions, industrial loan corporations and banks throughout the state. Other officers elected Saturday include John M. Taggart, American Investment Financial, chairman; Robert Hornbeck, American General Financial Center, vice president; William D. Taylor, AT&T Universal Financial Corp., treasurer; and Irene Jorgensen, executive vice president and secretary of the association.
Board members elected to the association's executive committee include Kenneth H. Petersen, Everest National Financial; F. Marc Estabrook, Great Western Thrift & Loan, Jerald A. Gordon, Beneficial Mgmt. Corp. of America; and Debbie A. Demmitt, Transamerica Financial Services Inc.
Speakers at Saturday's meeting included Sen. Robert F. Bennett, R-Utah; G. Edward Leary, commissioner, Utah Department of Financial Institutions; Bud Scruggs, professor of political science, Brigham Young University and R. Thayne Robson, executive director of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research, University of Utah.
