Ian Dean Barlow, M.D., 52, passed away Friday, September 17, 1993 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ethel M. and Edmund F. Barlow on January 3, 1941. He attended Granite High School and was student-body vice-president in 1959. He served an LDS mission in the East Central States Mission. He graduated Cum Laude at the University of Utah Medical School, and served an internship at the University of Maryland, and residency at the University of California-San Francisco.He has lived in San Francisco since 1971. He has served in many capacities in his medical profession as a neuro-psychiatrist. He was both an associate professor and asst. clinical professor at the University of California-San Francisco. He also had a private practice in the Bay Area. He served as associate professor at the AIDS Health Project and consultant at AIDS Service Agencies. He was co-founder and director of Bay Area Physicians for Human Rights. He generously devoted many hours of service to neighborhood clinics and other free services throughout his career. He authored many articles on AIDS dementia and other psychiatric issues. He loved life and his humor was with him until the end. He will truly be missed by his family and many friends.

His is survived by his sister, Edythe B. Denos; brothers: Joseph L. (Connie), Don P. (Judy), Hugh J. (Diane), and Julian E. (Sally) Barlow. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and -nephews. He will be deeply missed by nieces Christy, Kathleen and Debra, and nephew Michael, who looked to him as a father.

Funeral services Tuesday, September 21, at 12 noon, Larkin Chapel, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, where friends may call Monday evening from 7-9 p.m., and Tuesday from 11:00-11:45 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
