Dr. L. Verl Broadbent, prominent physician and surgeon and ex-mayor of Cedar City, Utah, passed away August 30, 1993 after a long illness.
Dr. Broadbent was very active in medical and community affairs in Utah. He was past president of the Utah State Medical Assoc., a Fellow in the International College of Surgeons, member of the American Medical Assoc. and of the Southwest Surgical Assoc. Physician for the F.A.A. and also for the Union Pacific Railroad.He was given a placque for his work with the handicapped of Utah, and was a member of the Historical Society. He was a surgeon during World War II, serving in the South Pacific for three years as a commander of the Navy.
He graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Ill. in 1934.
He was born in Heber City, Utah, November 2, 1905 to Sylvester and Josephine Murdoch Broadbent.
Dr. Broadbent is survived by his wife, Catherine; a son, Dr. Michael V. Broadbent, Chicago; also Dr. Steven P. McDonough, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Edward P. (Susie) James, Mesa, Ariz.; Mrs. Edward (Dianne) Castro, Duarte, Calif.; two sisters, Cora McCarrey, Anchorage, Alaska; and Jayne Malan, Salt Lake City; three brothers, Benn Broadbent; J.R. Broadbent, both of Salt Lake City and Dr. Reed Broadbent, Logan. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Cloyd B., Clay B., and Thomas B., and Mrs. A. Ray (Elaine) Curtis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. Viewing Friday, Sept. 3, 6-8 p.m. Family asks in lieu of flowers, donations to Primary Medical Center would be appreciated.
