Tandy Corp. plans to close a Salt Lake manufacturing facility, a move that will eliminate 60 Utah jobs.

Tandy Instruments of Utah, located in the Salt Lake International Center, manufactures components for Radio Shack computers. George Berger, Tandy Corp.'s vice president of human resources, said Wednesday that the plant closure was related to the corporation's sale of its computer manufacturing division in July."There is not support of the business to continue operating the instrument facility there," Berger said.

Employees were told last week the plant will be closed Nov. 23.

Berger said employees will be provided severance pay according to a tenure schedule. Tandy officials are confident most of the displaced workers will be absorbed by other manufacturing companies located in the Salt Lake valley.
