Varian Associates Inc., a Palo Alto, Calif., company with operations in Salt Lake City, has acquired Interay International X-ray Tube Corp. of Charleston, S.C., an X-ray tube sales and service company.
Richard M. Levy, Varian executive vice president, said, "This acquisition is consistent with our corporate strategic thrust to grow our $400 million medical business through acquisition as well as internal growth."Interay will remain in Charleston but will be part of Varian's X-ray tube products business headquartered in Salt Lake City.
This is the second major announcement the company has made in the last few days. Varian signed an agreement with Omnitron International, Houston, Texas, to begin manufacturing equipment for treating cancer by delivering radioactive isotopes directly to a tumor.
