Two of the most common nutritional deficiencies faced by women are iron and calcium. Finding a diet to fill both these deficiencies is difficult. Most foods high in iron are low in calcium and conversely foods high in calcium contain little iron.

One proposed solution is fortifying high calcium foods, such as cheese, with iron.The Utah State University Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences recently developed a prototype for iron-fortified cheese.
