Sportscaster Frank Gifford has written a tell-all book about his colleagues in the ABC booth for that autumn institution, "Monday Night Football."
The book, excerpted in TV Guide, is none too kind to ex-broadcaster Howard Cosell. Gifford says Cosell was insecure about his image and ability from the beginning and his problems only got worse."As time went on he became bitter. He became vengeful. Suddenly the public, who he thought adored him, didn't want all the bombast and pontification anymore."
Gifford says ABC employees avoided Cosell because he was constantly looking for affirmation of his talent.
