Our sweet loving mother, Iona Mae Hales Jarman, passed away December 30, 1993 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah at age 86.

She was born March 13, 1907 in Mammoth, Utah to Hial Bradford and Mary Emmiline Brown Hales. Iona lived in Spanish Fork, Junction, and Richfield before moving to Orem in 1922. She married LeGrand Jarman on August 15, 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died July 6, 1984.Iona was an active and devout member of the LDS Church serving as Relief Society president twice. She was active in civic affairs while her husband served as mayor of Orem from 1954-58. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Surviving family members include five children: Barbara Webster of Beaver Creek, Ohio; Berdean of Orem; Ray of Boise, Idaho; Myrna Krause of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; and Alayne Vicars of Hyde Park, Utah; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Also survived by two nieces, Wilma Feurerstein of Modesto, Calif.; and Nadine Adamson of Auburn, Calif.; one nephew, Glen Hales of Farmington, Utah; two sisters, Naida Bradley of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Thora Mecham of Smithfield, Utah; two brothers, Don Hales of Lindon, Utah; and Leo Hales of Orem, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Brown and Reed Hales.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 4, 1994 at 12 noon in the Timpview 3rd Ward Chapel, 1075 West 1100 North, Orem, Utah. Friends may call Monday, 6-8 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
