Dillard's said Wednesday it will open a two-level, 120,000 square foot department store at the newly expanded Newgate Mall.

The store will be Dillard's second in Utah following its opening in November of a 180,000 square-foot store at Fashion Place in Murray.Dillard's will join Sears and Mervyn's as the third "anchor" tenant at Newgate, said Richard Yetke, first vice president for Chicago-based Homart Corp., owner of the mall at Wall Ave. and Riverdale Road.

Homart recently completed a major renovation of Newgate Mall, expanding it to 693,000 square feet of space, a portion of which will be taken by Dillard's. A spokesman said some existing stores at the mall may have to be relocated to make room for Dillard's.

"Dillard's is a superb addition to Newgate Mall," Yetke said. "We welcome the expanded selection of quality merchandise that Dillard's will bring to our customers."

Yetke said construction of the store "could" begin by spring with a grand opening before the end of the year, but a Dillard's spokesman said no timetable has been set for opening.
