Law enforcement officers have kept busy recently responding to a large number of shooting incidents.
Three drive-by shootings were reported Tuesday in Salt Lake City. A West Salt Lake woman, 43, was asleep in her home in the 500 South block of Stewart Street (1485 West) when she was awakened by gunfire just before midnight. Six bullets were fired into her home, four of which narrowly missed her as she was lying in bed, a Salt Lake police report states.The woman said she suspects a rival gang is responsible because her sons "run with" a gang.
Another shooting occurred about 30 minutes earlier at a home on the 500 West block of Chicago Street. Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area and found bullets and casings in the street. The house had four bullet holes in the front door and one in the front window.
Officers received no answer at the door, but decided to enter the house. Inside, they found blood underneath the front window and a small trail of blood leading to the basement, a report states. Other bullets were recovered but no victim was located.
Another shooting was reported about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 700 South block of Post Street (950 West). Witnesses told police a vehicle drove up to three pedestrians in the area when one of the pedestrians began running after the car.
The pedestrian pulled out a long-barreled handgun and fired several shots at the vehicle as it fled. It is unknown if anyone in the car returned fire. One bullet hit the storm door of a nearby home, according to a report.
On Saturday, deputy sheriffs responded to reports of at least five drive-by shootings in a Magna neighborhood. No injuries were reported.
During the night, someone fired shots into two homes in the 7300 West block of 3100 South. One bullet entered a living room window and lodged in a wall. A bullet in the other home had been fired through a kitchen window.
A bullet was also fired into the kitchen window of a home in the 3000 South block of 7200 West.
Someone also shot out windows of at least two vehicles in that neighborhood and four other vehicles that night in East Millcreek and Taylorsville neighborhoods.
A bullet was also fired through a window of Wolf's Lounge, 3965 S. State, on New Year's Eve.
