Las Vegas police have captured a sex offender who escaped from the Garfield County Jail last weekend.
Harold James Dreyer, 25, climbed a fence outside the jail after discovering an officer had left a door to the yard unlocked.Las Vegas police discovered a stolen car from Utah illegally parked. They waited for the driver to come back, and when he did, they arrested Dreyer.
Dreyer was sent to the Utah State Prison in 1990 for beating and choking a woman and then trying to rape her. She defended herself with a broom handle and by spraying ammonia into Dreyer's face.
He ran from the scene but was later found naked hiding near a garbage bin.
Corrections spokesman Jack Ford said officials were happy to have Dreyer back in custody. His victim was especially nervous about the escape.
