In celebrating a BYU turnover, the University of Utah's Ernest Boyd, above, seems to be putting his own exclamation point on the best Utah season in three decades. Ute fans, right, tear down a goal post after Saturday's thrilling 34-31 win over the Cougars in Rice Stadium. With his team trailing 31-27 and with only 56 seconds remaining, the U.'s Mike McCoy tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Brown. Utah forced BYU quarterback John Walsh to fumble in the waning seconds to seal the victory. Adding insult to injury, the final score was identical to last year's thriller, also won by the Utes. Saturday evening, Utah supporters got bad news as Colorado State came from behind to defeat Fresno State. The victory gives CSU the WAC title and a berth in the Holiday Bowl. The 9-2 Utes likely will be invited to either the Freedom Bowl or the Copper Bowl. See Page D1.
