Gerry Faust is out of a coaching job again after he was fired by the University of Akron.
Faust, fired nine seasons ago by Notre Dame, was dismissed by Akron on Sunday. He was reassigned to a fund-raising position.Faust, 59, will become assistant vice president for university development.
The Zips had a 43-53-3 record in nine years under Faust and finished 1-10 in 1994, avoiding a winless year by defeating Ohio University 24-10 Saturday in Faust's final game. The victory ended a 12-game losing streak that had become the nation's longest.
The Zips had three winning seasons under Faust - 7-4 in 1986, 6-4-1 in 1989 and 7-3-1 in 1992. Akron moved from Division I-AA status in football to Division I-A in 1987 and joined the Mid-American Conference in 1992.
Akron hired Faust in 1986 after he posted a 30-26-1 record at Notre Dame, where his contract was not renewed after five seasons.
Faust was one of Ohio's most successful high school coaches, going 174-17-2 from 1963 to 1980 at Cincinnati Moeller.
