Patrick W. Salazar was named executive director of the Utah Coalition of La Raza. Salazar's appointment was approved by La Raza's board Nov. 7.
Salazar, a fund-raising consultant, replaces James Gonzales, who left to take a position in local government. UCLR officials said Salazar has a long history of involvement in the state's Latin community. He received a master's of business administration from the University of Texas at Austin in August of this year.
Chairman John Medina said he's confident Salazar will move the coalition forward.
"Patrick brings the necessary education and training to consolidate UCLR's direction," Medina said. UCLR is a Latino civil rights advocacy organization that lends training and assistance to about 20 other Latino groups in Utah.
