Bob Dylan's companion of nearly 20 years is suing him more than $5 million, saying she co-wrote his music and helped manage his career before they broke up last year.

Ruth Tyrangiel "devoted all aspects of her life to (Dylan's) needs, interest and well-being," she said in a lawsuit filed this week in Los Angeles.Tyrangiel said that she allowed the singer and songwriter "to hold her out and she also held herself out as his wife," and that he promised to split his property with her in the event of death or separation.

The relationship began in 1974 and ended in 1993, the lawsuit said.

Tyrangiel wants a monthly stipend, half of Dylan's still-undetermined assets and $5 million in damages.
