Emma Lee Schmidt, 19, beloved daughter, sister and friend, died November 5, 1994 after a courageous battle with Ewings Sarcoma.
She was born August 9, 1975 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ludwig and Susan Schmidt.She graduated from Cottonwood High School, where she was active in student government. She had started classes at Westminster College, when her cancer returned last year. Emma will be eternally grateful to her sister Barbara for being the donor for her bone marrow transplant. Emma shared her talents with many people, especially helping other teens understand cancer. Her wish granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation to be a model opened many doors for her to be an example to others. Throughout Emma's illness, she always kept a positive attitude. She touched many people's lives and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her companion and best friend, Mark Oyler, parents, Sonny and Sue, two brothers, two sisters: Robert and Becky Schmidt, Kenny Schmidt, Barbara and Dave Thygerson, Corinne Schmidt, nephew, Steven Schmidt, grandparents, C.J. and Berniece Scarlet, and Emma Schmidt Jones, and many numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by Grandma Iona Scarlet and Grandpa Ludwig Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 1994 at 12 noon at Jordan 3rd Ward, 3700 West 4700 South. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 So. Redwood Rd., and Wednesday at the church 11-11:45 a.m. Burial, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South.
In lieu of flowers, Emma requested donations be made in her name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
