Smith's Food and Drug Centers Inc. will build a store at 5400 South and 5600 West and hope to have it open by the end of the year, according to Shelley Thomas, vice president of public affairs.

The company has owned the land since 1985 and will built a 54,000-square-foot store to contain the usual Smith's departments of bakery, deli, photo lab, pharmacy, video rental and "Big Deals" section.
