Gladys Darnell Newby died March 13, 1994 in Salt Lake City.
Born August 13, 1910 to Luther Melvin and Mary Darnell in Vandalia, Illinois. She lived in Chicago, Illinois, Columbus, Ohio, Phoenix, Arizona and moved to Salt Lake City in 1927. Graduated from Westminster High School and attended Westminster Junior College. She worked at the Paris Co. from 1928 - 1939 as head cashier and asst. superintendent. Married Gordon L. Newby August 12, 1934. She was a member of First Baptist Church from 1927 until her death. Worked at the University of Utah Purchasing Dept. as expeditor from 1963 until retirement in 1975.Survived by her husband, two children, Gordon Darnell Newby and Patricia Newby Dyches; four grandchildren, Susan, Melisa and Timmothy Dyches; and Rebecca Newby; a brother, Donald D. Darnell and sister, Pauline Dickerman.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to a favorite charity. Funeral Directors: Neil O'Donnell & Sons.
