Dave McKenna, sometimes called "the hardest-swinging jazz pianist of all time," will perform Wednesday, March 9, at 8 p.m. at the Salt Lake Hilton at part of the first Gina Bachauer Piano Jazz Series.
McKenna's distinctive style features a near-orchestral left hand over a rumbling bass. A typical set might include songs of Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Johnny Mandel, Stevie Wonder and Irving Berlin.Over the years he has performed with the likes of Ruddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Tony Bennett and Rosemary Clooney and at the Mon-treaux and Concord jazz festivals.
