Monida Browning Cummings, daughter of world famous gun inventor, John M. Browning and widow of Dr. Nephi W. Cummings, physicist, died after a short illness on Thursday, February 24, 1994.

Mrs. Cummings was born June 21, 1892 in Ogden, Utah, where she spent her childhood and attended local public schools.Mrs. Cummings and her husband lived in San Bernardino where Dr. Cummings taught at the San Bernardino Community College.

Mrs. Cummings had no children of her own but the seven Cummings, and twelve Browning nieces and nephews were her beloved family, especially grand-niece and nephew, Terry and Bob Turrentine, whom she reared for a number of years. She said they were the "light of her life".

In addition to generosity to her family she contributed substantially to numerous charities.

In 1989 San Bernardino Community Hospital opened the Monida B. Cummings Tower, a gift from Mrs. Cummings. She also made substantial gifts to San Diego Square in San Diego, which President Reagan praised as an outstanding senior citizens center. The Center has created over 300 residential hotel rooms for needy elderly persons.

Mrs. Cummings lived a modest but full life, caring very little for possessions except for those she could give away to make other people's lives easier.

Private funeral arrangements are pending.

She is survived by her brother, Val A. Browning, Ogden, Utah; her sister, Elizabeth B. McLeod, Escondido, California; and her 19 nieces and nephews.
