Nephi City Council members have approved a new parking design at the Nephi Medical Clinic.
"The new clinic will nearly double our current size," said Gary Kyhl, representing the clinic management. The clinic now has 16 parking spaces. On busy days, some patrons are forced to park across the street. Children then run back and forth across the busy street.
Khyl proposed that a city-owned piece of property next to the clinic, which is now planted in grass, be made into an asphalt parking lot. The sidewalk would remain.
On 600 North, a drive-through curb would be built. "This would give us 40 more parking spaces."
Parking would be on the diagonal. Council members agreed many of the senior-citizen patrons had indicated a dislike for parallel parking, which is the style now in use around the facility.
Council members agreed the project, which would be completed in time for the opening of the new clinic, would improve the site.
June is the target date for opening the clinic, Khyl said. The old clinic, now in use, will be converted to a site for physical therapy, outpatient services and storage of medical records.
