Robert L. Rice and Kenneth O. Melby, who once owned European Health Spas, the largest publicly held fitness company, are opening Lifestyles 2000 at 5580 Van Winkle Expressway on Friday, April 15.

Gov. Mike Leavitt, Rice and Melby will participate in a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. The public is invited to the ceremony that will be followed by door prizes, tours, refreshments and free memberships.Rice and Melby opened their first fitness center in downtown Salt Lake City more than 40 years ago. Several years later, the chain became European Health Spas, which was sold to a New York conglomerate in 1969.
