Elizabeth Hill Boswell Shaw, 74, died May 28, 1994 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She endured to the end - with good cheer - during a long struggle with cancer and blindness.

Born November 7, 1919 in Ogden, Utah to George R. Jr. and Elizabeth McKay Hill. Raised in Salt Lake City. Married H. Eugene Boswell in 1948 in Reno, Nevada. Later divorced. Married Jack Shaw in 1978 in Portland, Oregon. He preceded her in death in May 1989.Graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City as the first female recipient of the Bausch Science Award. She received a Bachelors Degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters Degree from Columbia University, New York City.

During World War II, Liz was a Red Cross worker serving at Madigan Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. She taught at BYU and in San Francisco, Calif., and was a writer for "Mary Cullen's Cottage", the Lifestyle Section of the Oregon Journal, Portland, Oregon. She worked as a teacher for 16 years at the Sitton Elementary School in Portland, retiring in 1977.

Liz was a dynamic individual who loved to write poetry and sing folk songs accompanied by her autoharp. An active member of the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission in New York City. Member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and an avid genealogist.

Survivors: Daughter, Katherine Boswell of Salt Lake City; son, Robert Stephen (Elizabeth) Boswell of Bend, Oregon; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Bryan Boswell of Bend; brothers, George R. (Melba) Hill III of Salt Lake City; David McKay (Sherri) Hill of Puyallup, Washington; stepson, Jerry (Eleanor) Shaw of Portland, Oregon; former husband and good friend, H. Eugene Boswell of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Funeral services Wednesday, June 1, 1994, 10 a.m., Valley View 4th Ward Chapel, 2125 East Evergreen Avenue (3410 South). Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church Wednesday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Interment, Huntsville City Cemetery.
