A judge in Buffalo, N.Y., Wednesday denied John Bobbitt's request for a court-appointed guardian to untangle the money mess that came with the instant fame he received after his wife cut off his penis.

Bobbitt, 27, said agents and lawyers have kept him in the dark about his finances and have given him little of the money he made from public appearances that were supposed to help pay his legal debts. On Wednesday, State Supreme Court Justice Mario Rossetti said that was Bobbitt's problem, not the court's. He said Bobbitt could hire a good accountant or lawyer for that.

Bobbitt's lawyer, Michael Iacono, said his client is naive about business matters and signed contracts he never read.
