Rookie Dennis Setzer of Newton, N.C., scored the first NASCAR Busch Grand National Series victory of his career Saturday in the Ford Credit 300 at South Boston Speedway.

Setzer, driving a Chevrolet, came from 20th starting spot to lead the final 70 of 300 laps on the .400-mile oval. He collected $14,470.Setzer outdistanced the Chevy of Hermie Sadler of Emporia, Va., by 1.39 seconds.

Johnny Benson of Grand Rapids, Mich., finished third in a Chevrolet, with David Green of Owensboro, Ky., fourth in a Chevrolet. Chad Little of Spokane, Wash., finished fifth in a Ford.

Green took over the series point lead from Ricky Craven, who experienced overheating problems and finished 21st. Green leads Craven by 47 points after 16 of 28 events on the 1994 schedule.

The race, the first at the track since it was enlarged this year, was slowed by 13 cautions for 70 laps, mostly for spins.
