Kerri Strug, a 1992 Olympic gymnast, was hospitalized after falling off the parallel bars during a meet.

Strug, 17, of Tucson, Ariz., was in serious condition Friday night at Desert Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.Strug fell off the bars and hit her chest and chin. She lay motionless for a few minutes before moving her arms to indicate pain.

Paramedics carried Strug from the Palm Springs Convention Center on a stretcher wearing a neck brace.

Strug had completed two of four events in the U.S. Classic Nationals, a qualifying meet for the world team trials, and was second behind Dominique Dawes when she fell.
