Orson Douglas Romney Clawson, age 81, prominent Salt Lake City businessman, died September 9, 1994, in Salt Lake City.

Doug was born July 21, 1913 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Shirley Young Clawson and Gertrude May Romney. Doug graduated from the Lowell School, LDS High School and Junior College. Doug served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Great Britain from 1932-1934. Doug graduated from the University of Utah and Harvard Business School, class of 1936 where he was recruited by Talon, Inc. of Meadville, Penn. Sent to their New York office where he met and married Doris Alexander Grant of Maplewood, New Jersey, April 19, 1940. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, May 4, 1944.During World War II he was attached to the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi as the Navy Supply Officer and served as such in the invasion at Marseilles, France. At the war's end he served in the Navy Supply Disposal Unit in Boston, Mass. He managed the R.H. Macy Corporate Buying Office in New York until 1949 when he came to the University of Utah as an assistant professor in the Business School where he taught marketing. For two years he was the Vice President of Prudential Federal Savings & Loan, then became the Assistant Manager of Zions Securities. From there KDYL recruited him as their Director of Sales. During the 1950's he formed his own company, Douglas R. Clawson & Associates, handling Commercial Real Estate and Insurance.

An active member of the LDS Church, holding many teaching and leadership positions and a Salt Lake Temple worker for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife Alex; two children, Suzanne R. (Robert) Bowers and Douglas "Duff" Grant (Susan) Clawson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances (Lee M.) Jepperson; three brothers, Scott R.

(Agnes) Clawson, Richard R. (Dorothy) Clawson and Grant R. (Irma) Clawson all of Salt Lake City and numerous nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you to all of the Community Nursing Service and Hospice staff for their long hours of devoted care and service. We would like to invite friends and family to a celebration of his life at the Murray 23rd Ward, 755 East Three Fountains Drive, the evening of Tuesday, September 13th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 14th, 12 noon, at the Murray 23rd Ward, where friends may call from 10:30 -11:45 a.m. Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
