The Home Depot, the nation's largest home improvement retailer, has opened its first Utah store at 999 W. Riverdale Road.
The company also plans to open stores at 1310 East Park Centre Drive (7040 South) and 328 W. 2100 South.Store hours at the Riverdale location are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m Monday through Friday; 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
The store will employ about 110 workers. The store has 102,000 square feet of retail space and a 28,000-square-foot garden center.
The Home Depot stocks approximately 30,000 different kinds of building materials, home improvement products and lawn and garden products sold to do-it-yourselfers, renovation, construction and building maintenance professionals.
Founded in 1978, The Home Depot employs more than 53,000 people and operates 309 stores in the United States and Canada. The company had gross sales of more than $9.2 billion in 1993. It plans to operate some 824 stores by the end of fiscal 1998.
Home Depot was recognized recently in Fortune magazine as America's most admired specialty retailer and second most admired company in the country.
The Home Depot's stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "HD" and is included in the Standards & Poor's 500 Index.
