Despite the record-setting heat, Lagoon officials expect the entertainment park to set an attendance record by surpassing the 1 million mark.
"We've had a very good attendance year," said Dick Andrew, Lagoon director of marketing.Despite the probable seasonal record, Andrew said, Lagoon did not set any single-day attendance records this year. He suspects the unusually hot summer may be the cause.
"My sense is that it began to wear on people . . . it adversely affected us," Andrew said of the scorching summer.
Although no exact attendance figures are available yet, Andrew did say Lagoon-A-Beach drew unusually large crowds because of the heat.
Lagoon's 1994 season is not over yet. The park will be open weekends - weather permitting - through Oct. 23. The park will also open for the UEA school recess, Oct. 6-7, at 11 a.m. each day.
