Julie Haydon, who played the shy Laura Wingfield in the original Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie," has died of cancer. She was 84.

Haydon starred in the 1945 production of "The Glass Menagerie," and in 1939 played Kitty Duval in William Saroyan's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, "The Time of Your Life."Her movie credits included "The Scoundrel" and "A Family Affair." In the 1960s she worked as an actress in residence at the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minn.
