Roy Alfred Menlove, age 89, our right worthy and much beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 17, 1995, of natural causes in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born December 16, 1905, in Eureka, Utah to Ernest Alfred Menlove and Ines Selman Daniels, the fourth of eight children. Married Lucille Olsen March 22, 1927, in Provo, Utah. Solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple June 21, 1928. She preceded him in death December 5, 1992.Roy was our modern-day version of the Renaissance Man. He was, in succession: high school teacher and coach; farmer; Civilian Conservation Corps construction superintendent; founder of Menlove Construcion (creator and builder of the storied "Christmas Street" on Glen Arbor in Salt Lake City); chairman and for thirty years manager of the now departed World Motor Hotel in Salt Lake; first president and co-founder of Menlove Dodge-Toyota in Bountiful. For many years, Roy was president of the Utah Hotel-Motel Association. In that capacity, he traveled worldwide with his beloved wife, Lucille.

Roy was fisherman and hunter, but above all, an avid Jazz fan. A former high school coach himself, he was very knowledgeable about basketball. With seats directly behind the visiting team bench, he enthusiastically second-guessed all the coaches.

He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1927. A private man in many ways, he was an over-achiever himself and expected no less from his family and associates. Roy was a life-long member of the LDS Church. For many years he was Scoutmaster of Edgehill Ward and Hillside Stake Scouting director. Proud Silver Beaver designate himself, he had, at one and the same time, over forty Eagle Scouts at Edgehill. He was also very active in the M-Men basketball program as coach and advisor. Nine of his descendants have served LDS missions.
