Lyle Davis Dowell, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 22, 1995.

Born in Salt Lake City March 15, 1901 to Alma Hyder and Sophia Holmes Davis. Married Joseph J. Dowell April 9, 1924. He preceded her in death May 7, 1973.Graduated from LDS High School and LDS Business College. She enjoyed recalling her working days at Hercules Power Co. in the Kearns Building. She was the first secretary Hercules hired. She thought highly of her boss, Mr. McGanni, who always called her to the window where they watched the World Series on the Tribune score board.

She was an avid sports fan and always loved to discuss sports with her grandchildren. She participated in golf, bowling and bridge. For many years, she and Joe never missed a U of U football or basketball game. Lyle loved knitting and needlepoint. In later life, she played duplicate bridge, having attained her Life Master. As her life was winding down, helping others was her greatest satisfaction.

Survivors include three children, Dr. R. Judson, Incline, Nevada; Robert J. (Myrtle), Kathryn (Binny) King; daughter-in-law, Susan Felt Dowell; sister, Geneve Davis Pike, all of Salt Lake City; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Richard A. Dowell, May 26, 1988; and granddaughter, Julie King, October 22, 1985.

Family and friends may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 So. Highland Drive, on Tuesday, January 24, from 6-8 p.m. In keeping with Lyle's wishes, a family memorial service will be held at the mortuary Wednesday, January 25 at 11 a.m.
