I'm sure I wasn't the only reader shocked by your Jan. 16 article, "Doctors Start Packing Guns in War Over Abortion." And it isn't the violence at abortion clinics that shocks me. It's the following:
An abortion doctor surrounds himself with extra-thick concrete, bulletproof glass and steel doors. He wears a bulletproof vest and arms himself with a loaded 9mm Beretta. He therefore has some defense against a murderous public. But what defense does an unborn baby have against a murderous doctor? None. One of the doctors interviewed (the one with the 9mm Beretta) boasts, "I can be talking to someone real calm, maybe even ask them if they'd like a Coke," (he casually reaches under his desk) "and then I can shoot them before they ever see my hand."
I always wondered what kind of a person would kill unborn babies. Now I think I know.
The article concludes by stating that fewer doctors are entering and staying in the abortion field. There was an 8 percent decline from 1987 to 1992, and "the numbers have dropped off more sharply since then." Are we supposed to be sorry about this? I'm not. If there are fewer abortion doctors, maybe there will be fewer abortions.
