A Brigham Young University political science professor is now head of one of the largest political science honor societies in the nation.

David B. Magleby was elected to serve as president of Pi Sigma Alpha for two years after which he will serve as past-president for two more years.Magleby said BYU's activity in the organization was likely part of the reason he was nominated for election.

"We have a very active chapter," Magleby said, placing it in the top five in the country in terms of student programs and grants.

Magleby has been quoted nationally on general politics, campaign finance, voter partisanship, crossover voting, initiatives and referendums. He has written dozens of professional publications and has authored and co-authored several books.

He first became interested in political science because of a Pi Sigma Alpha chapter at the university he attended as an undergraduate. "The University of Utah had an active chapter, interesting speakers and interesting activities," he said.
