Mavis Staples says she made Michael Jackson's "Bad" even better.

The singer says she used the make-believe word "shum-mon" in her song "Heavy Makes You Happy" before Jackson used it in his tough-guy tune. She says it was a way of "being slick" while singing the words "come on."The former leader of the Staples Singers said her mother called one day after hearing "Bad" on the radio.

She remembers her mom saying, "`Mavis! This little Michael Jackson is using your word!' "

Staples isn't angry, however: "It makes me feel good and lets me know that they are listening."
