The Utah Jazz announced Saturday that they will sign Walter Bond to a 10-day contract next week.
Bond, a 6-foot-5 guard, played all of last season with the Jazz and 14 games this season before being waived Dec. 3. In those 14 games, he averaged 6.8 points and 1.7 rebounds.Bond, 25, signed with the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 12 and played five games with them, averaging 2.0 points in 51 minutes of playing time. They waived him after the Dec. 23 game.
Plans are for Bond to fly into Salt Lake City on Monday, undergo a physical exam and, if healthy, sign a 10-day contract on Tuesday.
With David Benoit still on the injured list, the signing of Bond brings the Jazz back to full roster strength - 12. Benoit is eligible to come off the injured list after next Wednesday's home game against Denver, just before the Jazz embark on a four-game Eastern road trip. For Benoit to be activated, it would probably mean that Jay Humphries, who continues to be slowed by tendinitis, would go on the injured list.
