Vernon Lloyd Richards, passed away in Salt Lake City on Friday, October 20, 1995 due to complications from diabetes.

Born May 29, 1924 in Vernal, Utah to David Lloyd and Bertha Vernon Richards. He married Beulah Sturgeon in the Salt Lake Temple on December 19, 1945. They had two children, Robert and Carol.Mr. Richards was a member of Parley's First Ward High Priest Quorum. He graduated from Uintah High School in 1942 and attended Utah State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. During World War II, he joined the Marines, where he was attached to the First Marine Air Wing in the South Pacific. Following the war he returned to Vernal, Utah where he worked for Texaco. He also lived in Provo, Utah where he served as manager of Freed's Utah Finance Company. In 1958 he founded Richards Finance Company and was President for over 35 years. He was active in both the National and Utah Consumer Finance Associations. He also owned and operated West Coast Recovery and Auto Caravan.

He was a great lover of the outdoors, especially the Uintah Mountains with their abundant lakes. He loved hunting and fishing, and recently returned from an Alaskan fishing trip with his wife, children, son-in-law and grandchildren.

Though his health prohibited him from flying, he never lost his love for piloting small planes. During the course of his illness, Mr. Richards was cared for by numerous physicians and the nursing staff of both the University of Utah and Veterans Hospitals. Their care and friendships were so appreciated. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his home care nurses, Gayle Handrahan and Kathy Decker; Dr. Peter Lawrence and the office staff of Dr. Frank Tyler. He made life long friends of every doctor who treated him during his 51 year battle with diabetes.

He will be remembered for his good nature and resilient laugh in spite of the daily complications he endured for so many years. His life was enriched by the endless hours of devotion from his wife, who provided not only love and companionship, but constant care giving.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah, his son, Robert of Ketchikan, Alaska, his daughter, Carol Davey, son-in-law, Dr. Bruce Davey, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Richard Davey, all of San Rafael, California.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 1995, 12 noon at the Parleys First Ward Chapel, 2350 South 2100 East in Salt Lake City. Friends may call on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive and on Tuesday after 11:00 a.m. at the church. Entombment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
